About the role

Pairing closely with the Volunteering Business Partner in a team of two, the National Volunteer Specialist will be responsible for the operational recruitment, screening, hiring, training, evaluation and development of volunteers. Strategic thinker, the successful candidate will be investigating ways and tools to support the business to increase the engagement and retention of volunteers nationally. With your expert advice you will contribute to the organisation’s growth journey, input and innovate and ultimately make a genuine difference to the lives of Australians in need. No two days are the same, and so you will need to be customer-centric and forward thinking in your approach, well organised and with a can do attitude.

Duties

  • Research and provide input to best practice volunteering strategy
  • Manage internal requests for volunteers and the support needs of members of the general public expressing interest in volunteering, managers of volunteers and current volunteers
  • Ensure MA involves community and corporate volunteers in alignment with legislative, contractual and organisational requirements.
  • Process National Police History Checks for managers recruiting volunteers
  • Promote programs that recognise and reward the contribution of volunteers
  • Promote the Mission Australia Volunteering brand internally and externally as appropriate
  • Act as a source of expert advice for business and volunteers in relation to the processes for involving volunteers at Mission Australia

Qualifications & experience

  • Relevant experience of working with volunteers
  • Demonstrated understanding of legislative and compliance requirements for volunteer management
  • Sound knowledge of the Community Services sector (advantageous)
  • Experience in recruitment and management of volunteers
  • High level administration and coordination skills.
