Mine Electrical Tradesperson

About the role

A new opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mine Electrical Tradesperson to commence at AGL Loy Yang for a fixed term 12-month contract. This role is responsible for providing an electrical maintenance service and High Voltage Operating in the Mine. Carrying out planned, breakdown & scheduled work, inspections and routine testing. Reporting into the Electrical Coordinator and as a key member of the Electrical Team, your focus will be to work towards maximising the contribution of the electrical operating and maintenance activities.

You will also be required to support as required the coordination, planning and scheduling of work activities for Electrical Tradespersons & other support leaders to ensure maximum utilisation of personnel.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide an electrical maintenance and operating function encompassing the planning, scheduling, completion and reporting of planned, breakdown and routine works.
  • Permit to work planning, design and issuing including High Voltage Operating Authority in the Mine
  • Ensure all work is initiated by, recorded and maintained in the Computerised Maintenance Management System.
  • Coordinate, plan and schedule the daily work activities for Electrical Tradespersons & other support leaders and ensure maximum utilisation of personnel.
  • Coordinate with direct leader & stakeholders such as mine production to ensure correct priorities.
  • Comply with the Electricity Safety Act and other relevant electrical regulations.


About you

To be successful in this role you will need to have working knowledge of electrical procedures, systems and permit systems within a heavy open-cut mining environment; as well as a detailed understanding of the operation of complex electrical systems, electric motors, transformers, HV distribution and substations. You will be someone with a strong commitment to maintaining a safe work environment with a solid understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, codes and guidelines both in the electrical and H&S field.


Other key requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of computerised maintenance management systems.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess a current “A” Class Electrical wiring licence in the State of Victoria
  • The ability to read and understand complex electrical drawings and work procedures.
  • Have (or be capable of getting) a High Voltage Electrical Operator Authorisation.
  • Have a current, clean Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Experience in open-cut mining equipment such as dredgers, stackers, conveyors, high voltage distribution and substations would be advantageous.
  • This role works a 9-day fortnight however you will need to be flexible with your work arrangements as at times there will be the requirement to work 12-hour shifts, night shifts and provide relief work.
