As part of our team, you will help vulnerable members of our community by providing accessible, quality health and wellbeing support to metropolitan, rural and remote communities.
This will involve: high quality counselling for people experiencing emotional distress, general depression and anxiety issues; mental health education; referral to providers; crisis intervention; people who have experienced or at risk of family and domestic violence and sexual assault and counselling for people wishing to quit smoking. You will support every caller/webchatter to accommodate their vulnerabilities of mental health issues which are affecting them as an individual.
Working on dedicated programs, you will safely and efficiently provide strength based and solutions focused support and counselling, mental health education, referral to providers and crisis intervention. This role is a telephone based role with the focus on one off support calls and web chat interactions online. Web chat is a growing component of the role and previous experience in using this technology will be highly regarded
The telephone and online based nature of this role will require you to multi-task between listening and supporting callers, typing notes and referring to clinical resources and online support tools.
The programs provide a 24 hour service and we work on a fixed fortnightly roster system with options to work either full or part time. We offer work at home roles which allow you to balance work with other commitments. With ongoing education, support and supervision you'll always feel part of the team no matter where you are based.
To be successful in your application for this role, you will have a tertiary degree (of minimum three years duration) in a relevant discipline in social science, social work, welfare studies, psychology or counselling OR a tertiary degree (of minimum three years duration) and a post graduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline in social science, social work, welfare studies, psychology or counselling.
You will have a minimum of two years full time counselling experience demonstrating the ability to work in a strength based or solutions focused framework. You will have knowledge of depression, anxiety and associated issues, particularly primary care pathways. As part of your university course work you will have completed a mental health/abnormal psychology unit/subject and have relevant field/telephone based experience in mental health.
Your experience in working with victims of trauma, including survivors of sexual assault, and domestic or family violence would be a distinct advantage.
