Senior Manager Operational Risk - Retail

Supporting Banking and Financial Services (under three business divisions Personal Banking, Wealth Management and Business Banking) you will have primary exposure to and oversight of a fast-moving, technology-driven and innovative business.

The role of Operational Risk is to form an independent view of Macquarie’s operational risk profile and effect change in operational risk management and culture across the firm, through the continual refinement and implementation of the Operational Risk Management Framework (ORMF). It is the coordinating and central force for operational risk across the group and must have a confident view on the risk profile of all our businesses.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to all business areas working closely with senior Business and Risk Management leaders across the group. As an Associate Director / Senior Manager, you will work closely with the Retail Lead Director and support setting the appetite, providing oversight and giving insight to your aligned businesses.

Engaging with stakeholders including regulators, auditors, and senior management, you will work with businesses to provide insights and advice on the best practice for design, measurement, analysis, evaluation and reporting of operational risk. Engaging with businesses direct, you will support the Director in reviewing new product and business proposals and work through all areas of the ORMF with the business such as incidents, risk assessments and reviewing business assurance activities.

Additionally, this role includes team ownership of fraud related policies working with specialist fraud investigators to set the appetite of the group and adapt policy responding to the latest fraud prevention and detection measures and the latest threats mitigation strategies.

We are looking for an experienced Operational Risk Associate Director / Senior Manager with significant Operational Risk, Internal or External Audit experience gained within a dynamic financial institution or professional services firm. This position also requires a tertiary degree in Finance or a related area. Relevant postgraduate degrees or professional qualifications (CPA, CA, CFA) are desirable.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to initiate and lead conversations with business leaders and risk management colleagues regarding anticipated and emerging issues. A confident communicator possessing strength of character to discuss risk management issues openly and firmly. Superior interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with Senior Management.  Able to gain buy-in, trust and understanding; ability to influence and negotiate.

Having commercial experience and an analytical mindset to make sound recommendations on operational risk issues is imperative. Being tenacious and agile, with proven ability to sustain high levels of performance in a fast-paced, output focused environment will also aid in your success.
