Qualified Lawyer - Dynamic Front Office Legal Opportunity

If you’re an Australian Admitted Lawyer with 3+ years’ experience covering the banking and financial services sector and looking to move from private practice or another finance-based position, then this role may present an excellent opportunity to join a specialist group of lawyers doing exciting work.  We have the flexibility for this position to either be full time or for a maximum term. You just need to tell us your preferences when applying.

You’ll utilise your experience acquired to date to help lead initiatives, projects and transactions in relation to a wide variety of financial services activities [for wholesale clients / in wholesale markets]. This may include assessing the global regulatory footprint of Macquarie’s Commodity and Global Markets Group; advising a global Futures clearing and execution business; drafting documentation in relation to financial services such as provision of derivatives to Macquarie clients; and potentially drawing on your knowledge to interpret and help support the implementation of responses to global OTC derivatives regulation (i.e. post-crisis regulation like Dodd Frank). This is a role with potential to really develop your career!

You’ll hold appropriate tertiary qualifications and be an Australian Admitted Lawyer and be able to demonstrate a stable yet progressive career to date.  Experience in varied types of commercial activities and / or with regulations or with regulators in more than one jurisdiction will be highly regarded.   As will knowledge or experience of futures or securities markets, and other derivatives markets – including any ISDA documentation and OTC reform understanding and experience.

You’ll need to be commercial in your outlook, self-motivated, and have a strong desire to learn about our varied global business activities and regulations. You’ll be curious and have an investigative approach to understanding documentation, business activities, regulations as well as their application.  A high level of proficiency in building relationships is also needed to enable you to deal with and obtain information from a variety of stakeholders across a wide range of roles and in multiple jurisdictions.  Meticulous and detailed, as well as highly organised, you’ll be able to demonstrate an ability to work through complex information quickly to understand and identify relevant and critical components and then to translate these into simple and clear language.

This presents as an outstanding opportunity to build your knowledge of diverse financial and commodity markets.
