Manager/Senior Manager - Project Finance and Principal Equity – Credit Risk – Risk Management Group - Risk Management Group - Sydney/Singapore


About the Role

The Credit Risk division is responsible for analysing and assessing all credit and equity exposures taken by Macquarie, to minimise the risk of loss arising from failure of counterparties to repay loans or honour contracts.  Credit is also responsible for undertaking reviews of counterparties and transactions and establishing appropriate limit frameworks. On principal transactions, Credit works with deal teams to understand risk vs reward profiles and develop risk mitigation strategies.

As a result of continued growth in Asia, including significant activity in the green energy space, we are seeking a talented individual to join the Credit Risk team in Sydney or Singapore.  Partnering with businesses in the region, the candidate will assist in the analysis of project finance and principal equity transactions (with a focus on renewable energy).  Working as part of a high profile team that deals extensively with senior management, the candidate will analyse complex transactions in a deal oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the credit team’s review of due diligence materials (technical, legal etc.) and ensure that the scope and quality of due diligence is appropriate
  • Attend site visits, engage with technical advisors, and identify technical project risks 
  • Oversee the credit team’s review of financial models and sensitivity analysis
  • Review project documents (e.g. PPA, EPC, O&M), financing agreements, and transaction agreements (e.g. SPA, SHA) to expose any clauses that may impact the risk vs reward profile of the transaction
  • Engage with senior deal team members to ensure appropriate risk mitigation strategies are adopted by the deal team
  • Assess the risk vs reward profile of transactions and present investment recommendations to team leaders and senior Credit approvers

About You

  • 5 - 8 years of credit or equity risk experience
  • Experience gained within project finance, principal investments, consulting, funds management, or private equity roles
  • Experience and understanding of renewable energy will be highly regarded
  • A technical or engineering background will be highly regarded
  • Confidently numerate; able to distil complex data
  • High degree of ownership, delivery and timeliness
  • Build strong, open, dialogue-based relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Strong commercial judgement and understanding of business and risk-related issues
  • Persuasive communication skills (both written and verbal) and confidence when being challenged
  • Chinese, Korean or Japanese language skills will be highly regarded
  • Outstanding qualifications in finance, economics, engineering, or other quantitative disciplines
