Google Cloud Architect


As a Solutions Developer join a highly agile “two pizza” team working with numerous businesses to deliver Macquarie’s second public cloud platform and change the way the organisation delivers software.  You will be building the cloud platform and collaborating with architects, designers and security specialists across the broader technology group to deliver the Google Public Cloud platform to host applications more smoothly, efficiently and reliably.

This role, within our Infrastructure Cloud team, involves working closely with a diverse range of business teams across the Macquarie group, developing cloud solutions and architecting the Google Cloud platform to realise business and technology objectives. You will have the opportunity and freedom to contribute to solutions, drive improvements and think innovatively. The role will build on your development skills, your existing understanding of how infrastructure works, DevOps skills and automation skills, to deliver a significant public cloud outcome within the Macquarie Group.

We anticipate to excel in this role you will:

  • work closely with technical leads and client teams to deliver a secure and resilient public cloud platform
  • implement cloud-based solutions in line with industry best practices and enterprise architecture guidelines   
  • support clients in troubleshooting issues in their test and/or production environments and identifying root cause and solutions    
  • build and automate delivery pipelines (CI/CD)   
  • plan, document, develop and test solutions to fully automate delivery of Google Cloud.
  • perform peer code reviews to uphold coding standards
  • participate in operational and support activities as we move towards an SRE support model.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • 3 years+ in a public cloud and IT Infrastructure roles & 5+ years software development experience
  • bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science or related
  • GCP and / or AWS cloud implementation experience in an Enterprise setting (preferably Financial Services)
  • excellent understanding of cloud services such as IAM, Networking components, containers, storage buckets and data storage technologies
  • proven software development skills across a range of related technologies – Python, JSON, YAML, Bash Scripting, GitOPs, & DevOps
  • strong technical design skills with the ability to articulate solutions at both a conceptual and detailed level
  • an understanding system reliability and availability concepts
  • ability to work in an agile software development team
  • an automation mindset.

Additional experience in the following will be highly regarded:

  • an understanding of security principals and controls associated with cyber security governance
  • Google Cloud certifications
  • API development and SOA architecture concepts
  • Application development experience for Public Cloud
  • Database experience with either RDBM or NOSQL 
  • other development languages such as Go, Java, C/C++, Ruby, or JavaScript.
