Legal Counsel - Asset Management & Leasing


The Property Australia legal team at Lendlease has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join the Asset Management & Leasing Legal Team, reporting to the Head of Legal, Asset Management & Leasing and based in Sydney.

Lendlease has a strong asset management and leasing capability which complements the world class product creation capability of the broader Lendlease Group, allowing us to deliver a range of global real estate products and solutions tailored to the needs of institutional investors.

You will work as part of a team to provide legal support for the Asset Management business unit, while working within the broader Property Australia legal team. In this role you will be responsible for providing legal advice and transactional support including advising on leasing, property acquisitions, divestments, developments, technology proposals, capital works and other asset management projects and initiatives within the Property Australia business.

In this hands-on role, you will work closely with the business and commercial teams as well as with Lendlease Tax, Accounting and other functional support areas. This position will offer a diverse range of legal exposure including the opportunity to work on large complex property transactions.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring legal advice contributes to the commercial soundness of Property Australia’s decisions including in relation to leasing, property acquisitions, divestments, developments, technology proposals, capital works and other asset management projects.
  • The delivery of proactive, strategic and high-quality legal advice.
  • Internal and external stakeholder management.
  • Managing budgets for external legal resources.
  • Assisting with the implementation of the Legal Panel for Lendlease.
  • Keeping abreast of best legal practices within the industry and external to industry and where appropriate, apply those practices to the Asset Management team (in conjunction with other teams as appropriate).

To be successful in this role you are committed to a team-based approach and demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, while being adept at exercising discretion, judgment and confidentiality where necessary.

Ideally, you will have 5 – 10 years post admission experience and will have experience in relevant ancillary legal areas including construction, litigation and insolvency. You will also have strong analytical, stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
