We’re now searching for an experienced Director to lead and grow our business in the Innovation, Digital and Data Division within our Sydney office.

The role requires a proven level of technical expertise and credibility in Artificial Intelligence. The person will continue to build and lead the practice including KPMG’s global Ignite platform. They will have experience in managing data science, data engineering teams.


Your Opportunity

You’ll be a key member of our Innovation, Digital and Data team, this role will see you:

  • As a leader
    • be responsible for building and leading a cross-functional go-to-market team including business development, specialist technical teams (Data Scientists and Engineers) and domain experts resources to drive client adoption of AI/ML Services across Australia.  
    • Apply experience and knowledge to identify key issues important to the client, then create and deliver innovative, commercial AI solutions which differentiate KPMG from the competition. Engage in client projects to applying machine learning to design and prototype intelligent, real-world applications that extract understanding from text and/or speech sources including building intelligent document analysis, topic modelling, virtual agents and advanced chatbots.
    • Serve as a key member of the leadership team helping to drive overall KPMG AI market and technical strategy as it relates to KPMG Ignite and AI services.
  • As a client technician 
    • Understand the technical requirements of our customers and work closely with the development teams to guide the direction of our solution offerings.
    • Understands the commercial and contractual aspects of an AI engagement and oversees the delivery of complex client engagements, acting as a key contact with senior client personnel.
    • You will have particular focus on delivering solutions on KPMG Ignite platform for natural language processing (NLP), computational linguistics, information extraction and retrieval, probabilistic decision making, deep learning, cognitive science and advanced analytics.
    • Develop new techniques and methodologies in delivery of AI program of work. Formulate NLP and other machine learning approaches to business problems.
  • As a team player
    • Work with Partners across all KPMG’s Divisions to define AI/ML use-cases and offerings for key market segments. Be part of innovative projects where AI solutions lead to increased efficiencies in businesses where KPMG operates. Work closely with various KPMG functional subject matter experts to incorporate AI and advanced analytics models into KPMG's client solutions and offerings.
    • Grow, lead and coach technical teams, investing time in people by acting as a mentor to create and sustain a high performance work environment and team. Take a longer term view of the skill requirements, anticipating future requirements, identifying gaps and designing approaches to address the gaps, including hiring programs.
  • As a strong voice in the market:
    • Maintain expert knowledge of AI market trends, competitor activity and products/services. Prepare and give advice to Partners across the firm regarding AI trends and opportunities.
    • Establish and sustains strong professional presence in the marketplace by networking, speaking, and participating at a leadership level for external professional organisations. Recognised internally and externally as AI subject matter expert
    • Identify, build and enable the related KPGM AI alliance ecosystem.
    • Keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of AI by participating in conferences, communities and other technical networks. Research and explore AI/NLP state-of-the-art tools, methods and models to accelerate the development of AI services.
    • assist in KPMG market eminence, develop thought leadership in the application of NLP to business problems. They will support client facing business development activities to influence sales, marketing and product development to successfully develop and launch new offerings.

To be considered for this opportunity, you're likely to have a strong Data Science, data Analytics, AI/ML, client solutions and strategy & transformation background with:

  • A wealth of business development experience in Big Data and/or Machine Learning/AI technologies program/product management experience. You will have both a business background that enables you to drive an engagement and interact at the CxO/VP level, as well as a technical background that enables you to easily interact with technology leadership, software developers and architects.
  • Experience selling and/or working with Big Data and/or Machine Learning technologies, preferably cloud-hosted and managed
  • Strong technical understanding of the Big Data and Machine Learning / AI market (technologies, tools, trends, players, use cases, customer scenarios & opportunity)
  • Technology acumen / technologist and experience with cognitive cloud computing services and or related fields (IT, software, etc.) and using cloud infrastructures like IBM Watson, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, and AWS.
  • Experience in building intelligent document analysis, virtual agents, chatbots
  • Solution building experience in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning (DL), Natural Language Processing, Cognitive Science or other related areas
  • Be a master a using a variety of NLP techniques to achieve the business requirement, e.g. text classification, developing customised language models, NER models, topic modelling, reading comprehension systems, dependency parsing and textual entailment
  • Solid understanding of software solution architecture and DevOps practises. The applicant should understand quality software development code writing, AI programming languages and frameworks e.g. Python, Scikit-Learn, R, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch SpaCy, NLTK, Gensim, or similar
  • Solid negotiation skills, and business and financial acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organisations
  • Must be a self-driven problem solver, with willingness to take ownership and accountability of getting tasks done. Capable of considering novel solutions to problems, designing innovative experiments to show feasibility of solutions and working to refine the solutions into a real-world context
  • Demonstrate capability to build and lead highly talented data scientist, engineers, software developers and business managers

Desirable Qualifications

  • Education: Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration related field
