Chief Operating Officer, Risk Strategy

Reporting to Partner in Charge (PIC), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) is primarily responsible for shaping and enhancing the day-to-day operations of the Risk, Strategy and Technology (RST) practice. They will operate at the core of the business and serve as an integrator between the team and firm and aim to break down any functional and/or geographical silos to promote a national practice.

You will support and drive our strategy by being able to:

  • Routinely review and report on financial performance on a Practice, Geography, Sector (LOB) and individual basis;  
  • Oversee annual business budgets & phasing process;
  • Support the development of practice strategy and implementation of business plans and associated initiatives.
  • Support innovation and incubation of new ideas and solutions, ensuring responsibility and accountability is established and applied;
  • Work with our HR Team to support and drive the people agenda to ensure we attract and retain talent. This may also include the review and planning of salary bandings and the effective management of HR issues as they arise;
  • Promote individual and practice profiles both internally and externally through a series of BD activities including but not limited to events, thought leadership, social media, targeted sponsorship, presentations/speaking opportunities and marketing campaigns;
  • Role model a knowledge-sharing mindset and builds a constructive culture by proactively sharing what they know with other KPMG people, teams and functions.
  • Lead by example on directives and guidelines for knowledge sharing and the use of technology to strengthen practice management.
  • Drive disciplines through regular communication relating to practice expectations for use of quality and risk management systems to ensure compliance with firm’s knowledge and risk practices.
  • Build relationships with Business Services and other firm teams, e.g. PPC, ITS, Risk Management, Markets, other COOs, Operations Managers, Sector Leaders and EAs;
  • Inspire others by being a champion of inclusion and connecting individuals by building collaboration;
  • Role model and drive the KPMG Story.

You bring to the role:

  • Qualifications with a strong accounting, risk management or regulatory background. With approximately 10+ years of relevant business experience gained in Professional Services industry or similar
  • You must have very good people judgment, personal integrity, and ability to communicate as a counsellor and peer to both the RST group and other members of the leadership
  • Degree qualified
  • Proven experience in a similar role is essential
  • Prior experience leading a Risk function is desirable
  • A commercial and analytical mindset with complex problem solving skills
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence and present your ideas with impact to clients and other key stakeholders
  • Experience in leading teams and providing training and guidance to build performance
  • Project management skills including experience in making strategic decisions across multiple engagements
