HS&E Specialist

Amazing opportunity for a Health and Safety Specialist to join us here at Telstra on a 6 month fixed term basis.

Reporting to the Team Manager HSE, the HSE Specialist provides expert advice and guidance on risk-based HSE best practice and effectively delivers HSE initiatives and programs tailored to suit the specific requirements of the business. This role requires strong stakeholder management, engagement, influencing and communications skills and experience coupled with a high level of energy to drive engagement. This is a true generalist role that provides the successful candidate with a rare opportunity to work with some of the best minds in the industry, people who are passionate about Telstra and work together to achieve great things.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the wider First Line of Defence HSE team to proactively review the business HSE risk profile in relation to existing and upcoming work activities to assess its ongoing adequacy and respond to emerging HSE risks.
  • Develop risk controls and monitor and report on the implementation and effectiveness of key controls within the businesses, including through developing and conducting inspections, reviews and audits.
  • Provide advice and support to the line of business on the development, implementation and integration of the Telstra Global HSE Management system in line with the objectives of business strategy, policy, standards and governance.
  • Support the HSE incident reporting process and support people leaders in HSE incident reporting, investigation and close out of corrective actions.
  • Provide support to the HSE Business Partner / Team Manager on the development and implementation of the line of business HSE Improvement Plans.
  • Work with peers in other lines of business to ensure consistent messaging and application of HSE processes and standards.
  • Provide HSE advice and associated tasks as required.
  • Remain current with best practice HSE practices and legislation.
  • Ability to work within the overall strategic direction of the business with minimal supervision.
  • Assist in the implementation of the overall HSE communications strategy for the relevant line of business to improve engagement and commitment to achieve desired HSE outcomes.

We are looking for a strong communicator who has excellent stakeholder relationships skills combined with sound investigative skills, preferably working with icam methodology.

The successful person will come from high-risk environments, be highly adaptable, confident, resilient and feel comfortable working in a very fast pace environment.You will possess Diploma or higher level of qualifications in Health and Safety.
