Senior Consultant to Manager - Education Advisory

The Education Advisory team is a specialist practice within Deloitte Access Economics, comprising more than 20 full-time team members across Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.

We provide the highest quality analysis and advice to the most complex challenges and imperatives of the evolving education landscape. We cover the full education continuum, from early childhood, through schooling and vocational training, to higher education, including:

  • policy development and review;
  • program design;
  • economic contribution and impact studies;
  • cost-benefit analysis
  • funding and costing reviews;
  • monitoring, review and evaluation.

Our advice applies a variety of analytical frameworks, models and techniques, informed by the latest economic theory as well as insights from other disciplines in social science and public policy.

About the Opportunity

Our Education Advisory team is expanding and seeking talented public policy practitioners to support the further growth of our national practice in Brisbane.

This role represents an opportunity for an economist or policy analyst to take the next step in their career, managing the delivery of projects in a professional services environment.

We are seeking an individual with a passion for economics and its use in public policy, a commitment to leading and undertaking high quality analysis and advice, and a desire to work in a fast-paced and influential, team environment.

The role will involve managing the delivery of quantitative and qualitative research projects, across different jurisdictions, on the most important issues facing the education sector nationally, including:

  • The future of early childhood education and care sector, including funding and regulatory performance and performance of the National Quality Framework;
  • The growth of international education and training in Australia, the risks to institutions and providers associated with source market concentration and the contribution of the sector to regional economies and employment;
  • The performance of our schooling systems in achieving academic outcomes and embedding the principles of inclusive education and youth engagement; and
  • The future of the vocational and higher education systems, including their integration, efficiency and ability to deliver skills that the workforce of future will require to grow our economy.

The role includes managing the delivery of our findings in reports and presentations and the management of diverse and dispersed project teams.

Importantly, the role requires you to be an adaptable and agile thinker – moving between project and policy contexts in a flexible and responsive manner.

About You

In joining our team, you will bring the following attributes:

  • Three to five years’ experience as an economist or policy advisor, ideally in other consulting firms, applied academia or from economic, education or central agencies within governments.
  • An agile working style, with the ability to manage multiple research projects, project teams and competing client needs simultaneously.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, adeptness in a project team environment, sound communication, confidence working with/interpreting data, and a motivation (and agility) to learn from and with your colleagues.
  • A passion for policy and the application of frameworks and theory to real world issues, in particular a genuine interest in education policy.
  • A degree in economics, public policy, actuarial studies or other related disciplines, with strong academic results.
