Independence & Conflicts - Manager Business Relationships


We are looking for a highly motivated individual to work in our well-established internal facing Business Relationships team in Sydney. Please note this role is for a 12 - 18 month maternity cover.

The Business Relationships team forms part of the Independence Australia group and provides critical support to the Deloitte business when engaging third parties. Engaging third parties is part of the firm’s strategy in meeting our clients’ needs in an agile way. The Business Relationships team ensures there is an effective quality control framework in place to help the firm govern this process of engaging third parties.

About the role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of five individuals in the already established Business Relationships team and report to the Director of the group.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing day-to-day activities of the local and offshore team members, including being a sounding board to the team for consultation matters
  • Ensuring all portfolios within the Business Relationships team are progressing and operating in an effective and timely manner
  • Ensuring our internal processes are effectively utilised within the Deloitte business
  • Planning and leading regular team meetings
  • Organising and running training sessions to up skill team members and the business
  • Ongoing coaching for all team members to facilitate their growth and development in their respective roles
  • Responding to technical consultation queries from the business
  • Overseeing the various ad-hoc internal projects relating to Business Relationships
  • Reviewing and preparing appropriate documentation for streamlining and improving internal processes, including developing fact sheets, tools and templates to support the team and the business
  • Raising awareness with the business, including preparing articles, write ups and training to the business and new joiners
  • Preparation for Regulatory inspections (internal and external)

About you:

The desired skills required include:

  • Prior manager-level experience and sound technical knowledge in the area of Business Relationships and Auditor Independence
  • Excellent verbal and written business communication skills
  • Strong management skills and ability to effectively manage a team
  • Able to manage both day-to-day consultations and project work

The ideal candidate must:

  • Have excellent attention to detail
  • Be able to have difficult conversations and manage key stakeholder expectations
  • Be able to handle multiple tasks at any one time and perform well under pressure
  • Be able to apply the knowledge acquired in this area when evaluating and reviewing various third party arrangements
  • Be willing to take on responsibilities and challenges
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively within the team and the broader business
  • Be able to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment (including virtual settings)
