Financial & Operations Turnaround Advisory - Director

Deloitte

Do you have a passion for leading organisations through periods of rapid change?

Our national team specialises in rapid operational and profit improvement programs, cash generation and large-scale complex transformational change in time-critical situations. We advise senior stakeholders including CEOs, CFOs, Divisional MDs and debt and equity providers (including private equity).

About You

We are seeking exceptional individuals with 3 to 15+ years of experience in strategy & operations, financial advisory, or operational management to join our team as a manager or director. You are likely to have a finance, accounting, economics or engineering background with a related post-graduate qualification or are currently studying towards a CA, CFA or MBA.

Successful applicants will come from a Management Consulting background and have some exposure to underperforming businesses, turnaround or accelerated transformation situations and previous experience working for or consulting to companies on matters of financial performance, financial management or operational improvement.

About the Opportunity

In this role, you’ll be joining a team of innovative and passionate people to create and implement solutions that meet our clients' toughest challenges and deliver sustainable financial outcomes. You will be working in teams to diagnose the problem, and design and implement turnaround/ improvement plans. We combine analytical, operational, strategic and financial diagnostics combined with leadership and workshop driven approaches to develop and implement plans.

Examples –

  • When Australia’s largest grocery retailers announced a $1 bread strategy we advised one of country’s leading bakers to realign its business, returning it to growth.
  • We helped one of Australia’s most successful coffee chains restructure its retail portfolio, refinance and achieve a successful trade sale.
  • We assisted a fast growing technology services business restructure its legacy operations and reposition for growth and investment in new high margin markets.
  • We assisted a public healthcare provider to define, implement and monitor a large scale improvement program with significant state government budgetary implications.

Our work in under-performing situations is different to healthy company consulting or advisory in three ways: Speed to insight - time is critical so accelerating analysis to gain quick insights into issues and opportunities is key; Bias to action - getting management aligned, taking ownership of the change and driving implementation requires a different mindset than traditional consulting given the time criticality; Bankability - actions to improve performance must clearly translate into earnings and cash flow improvement in a timeframe acceptable to investors and financiers
