Director - Operational Risk


The Deloitte Operational Risk team is part of Deloitte’s National Risk Advisory practice and provides integrated risk advisory and internal audit services to clients across a broad range of industries.

We are looking for a senior and experienced internal audit practitioner who has a passion for working within the public sector and who wants to join a forward thinking organisation, recognised for its innovation and creativity.

About the role
This role involves managing an established internal audit client base whilst also supporting exciting business development pursuits across the public sector. As a senior member of the team you will play an integral role in our business delivering impact to our clients and our people, which will see you being involved in:

  • Playing a substantial and lead role in managing senior client relationships at both the C-suite and Audit / Finance / Risk Committee level
  • Applying your knowledge of leading practices in the identification, measurement, management, monitoring and reporting of risks, including the application of globally recognised risk management standards (e.g., ISO 31000:2018)
  • Maintaining a high standard in the quality of internal and external communication deliverables, including technical content of reports, thought leadership, presentations and proposals
  • Providing engagement management and designing appropriate delivery methodologies across a broad spectrum of financial and operational areas
  • Bringing strong industry experience in risk advisory (includes all aspects of enterprise risk management, governance, audit, quality assurance, control optimisation, compliance / regulatory risk, major capital projects and capital management)
  • Evaluating, developing, counselling and mentoring our growing team of professionals.

About you
As an experienced practitioner, you will have sound and practical knowledge of current internal audit and risk management practices, standards and developments. You will have strong report writing and communication skills combined with a highly organised approach and strong ability to manage projects. In addition to this, as the successful candidate, you will have:

  • Demonstrated commercial business acumen, ideally coupled with experience in developing and maintaining client relationships, including assisting with proposals and business development
  • A proven track record in delivering consulting services to clients (either external or internal), gained from working in a senior role in a professional services or a relevant consulting firm environment during your career
  • A strong background or demonstrated experience in the public sector particularly in relation to the processes and controls required for effective management of key business risks
  • Relevant professional qualifications.
