As part of the ongoing growth and success of our business, Deloitte Access Economics has recently established a permanent, full-time presence in Hobart and is looking to hire an additional team member who is an experienced Economist / Policy Adviser.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Analyst or Manager to join our Hobart team.

Your role will involve quantitative and qualitative analysis of economic and social policy issues, communication of findings in reports and presentations and liaising with clients. You will participate in and manage small project teams.

Whichever level you come in at, you will join a new team reporting to and learning from a Partner who is based in Hobart and also works closely with teams across the country. You will also have the opportunity to work with the broader Deloitte Access Economics team in mainland offices.

About You

A degree in economics (or related field) and strong academic results are viewed as essential. Previous experience in other consulting or specialist economic firms or central agencies within the Commonwealth or State and Territory governments would be an advantage.

Experience in one or more of the following areas will be well regarded:

  • Development of public policy – including an understanding of government policy development and budget processes
  • Cost Benefit Analysis, business cases, project evaluations and economic impact assessments
  • Infrastructure and regulated industries – water, energy, ports
  • Health or Tourism sectors.

Successful candidates will have strong analytical skills, be adept at project management, have good communication skills, be confident working with data and using a range of methods of analysis, be self-motivated as well as team players, and have an appetite to learn and grow.

We are seeking applicants with three to ten years experience as a professional economist or policy advisor in either the public or private sector, coupled with a passion for economic policy and the application of economic theory to real world issues. An appreciation of the issues facing the Tasmanian economy would be an advantage.
