After 34 years in five states across Australia, the Australian Girls Choir is delighted to be opening in Canberra in July 2018! We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated Choral/Singing Teachers, Tutor Trainees and Venue Managers to inspire girls and join our dynamic team.

The Australian Girls Choir (AGC) is in its 34th year as the country’s leading performing arts organisation for girls with over 5750 choristers training in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. We are thrilled to be opening in Deakin and our initial classes will be for girls aged 5-12 years.

Tutor positions are suitable for choral/music teachers who have broad Performing Arts skills and interest in teaching a curriculum that is more ‘music theatre’ than ‘traditional choral’. Our innovative approach and professional standards of performance require staff members who are energetic, spontaneous and flexible. Our repertoire ranges from early music to contemporary popular with performances usually including theatrical elements. Tutor applicants must have relevant performing arts experience and/or education qualifications.

Tutor Trainee applicants do not require teaching experience as they will be mentored by an AGC Tutor, with the aim of gaining a tutoring position with the AGC after training has been completed.

Venue Managers

No experience is required for the Venue Manager positions. This is a more junior role which often suits a young person with an interest in the arts/education. Venue Managers are responsible for the smooth running of the rehearsal venue, for liaising with parents, assisting the tutors, ensuring the safety of the choristers and representing the choir in this public forum.

Excellent presentation, well-developed communication and interpersonal skills are essential for all roles, along with a passion for the performing arts and an interest and love of engaging children.

All teaching hours and rehearsals are paid; applicants must be available for work on Saturday mornings between 9.00 – 11.30am during school terms. The positions will commence on July 28, 2018.As classes are extra-curricular many of our casual staff members study or hold full-time positions outside the AGC. Many of our tutors find that working with the AGC provides them with an opportunity to collaborate with a dynamic team of teaching professionals; complements their performance practice and contributes to their sense of personal achievement.
