Senior Project Manager Banking


APRA is seeking an experienced Business Program/Project Manager to support it’s Banking division deliver against strategic objectives and ensuring sound project discipline is applied.

Reporting into the Head of PMO, this is a permanent opportunity supporting planning and delivery of multiple projects across APRA’s strategic portfolio.

The focus of this role will be on translating high-level strategic objectives into executable and achievable plans, including defining scope, key milestones, costs, dependencies, internal and external resourcing requirements and management of risks and issues. The role will also oversee execution of delivery.

Senior project management professionals experienced in financial services, in particular with knowledge or keen interest in policy regulation within banking, superannuation or insurance would be most suited to this role.

Key relationships will be partnerships with General/Senior Managers, SMEs, Project and Business teams.

In this role you will

  • Translate business strategy that is aligned with APRA’s prudential goals into executable implementation plans, including high-level and detailed planning of milestones, outputs and tasks.
  • Provide Senior Management with key inputs for prioritisation and decision making.
  • Be responsible for hands-on program management and project planning.
  • Advise, support and influence Business Leaders on application of project discipline.
  • Manage project execution on key projects where required.
  • Monitor and report on progress to plan in terms of scope, schedule and cost.
  • Ensure that there is adequate clarity of tasks in terms of requirements, quality and completion date.
  • Manage risks, issues and dependencies; initiating corrective actions and maintaining visibility and escalating when appropriate.
  • Be responsible for managing change or deviation from the plan.
  • Be responsible for adherence to APRA project management standards for key activities including status reporting, risk and issue management.

To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience in managing business-driven projects including strong program and project portfolio management experience. Ideally you will have experience in banking and insurance projects within financial services or similar industries and excellent skills in the use of project management planning tools and techniques.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional communication, presentation and facilitation skills and a highly professional approach. You will be proficient in building relationships and influencing across all stakeholder levels, including managing vendors, contract management and procurement.
