Head of Climate Risk

  • Form and lead a team responsible for providing expert advice in the area of climate risk
  • Play a lead role in ensuring regulated entities manage the financial risks of a changing climate
  • Opportunity for flexible working arrangements in a workplace that values diversity, inclusion and work/life balance

The effects of a changing climate pose financial risks, as well as provide for new business opportunities, to all APRA-regulated entities. These financial risks will continue to be a focus of APRA’s efforts to increase industry resilience and to ensure effective action is taken to mitigate against them.

We’re looking for an experienced leader to head up and form a Climate Risk team within the Cross-Industry Insights and Data division.

You will:

  • Play a key role in delivering and contributing to APRA’s development of relevant prudential standards, guidelines and methodology to assess and influence the climate risk policies and practices of APRA-regulated institutions
  • Lead a team of risk specialists to deliver on APRA’s strategy and promote best practice in industries that are vital to the Australian community
  • Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders as you develop and deliver APRA’s approach
  • Work closely with peer agencies both domestically and internationally, including the Council of Financial Regulators and other relevant government and industry bodies

The team:

Will provide expert advice on climate risk in relation to APRA-regulated institutions. Its key focus will be driving continuous improvement in how organisations understand, disclose and manage these risks over coming years.

You are someone with:

Extensive experience in risk management practices, with a focus on climate-related risk, along with a sound understanding of how financial institutions operate and the key risks they face.

APRA’s leaders play an integral role in shaping our culture, supporting our people and preparing APRA for the future. The successful candidate will therefore have demonstrated experience leading high performing teams, in addition to excellent communication skills and proven ability to engage with senior stakeholders.

You will have a positive mindset and a strategic approach, with a willingness to offer new ideas and a fresh perspective. A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline is required.
