Compliance & Risk Strategy - Product Owner

As the Compliance & Operational Risk (C&OR) Product Owner (PO), you will lead a squad working closely with the Program Director, Delivery Lead, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and other stakeholders to deliver important uplifts in one of several focus areas of the Strategy. You are responsible for the design direction, features, backlog and stakeholder engagement for one of the product streams with the C&OR Strategy, in order to address business pain points, regulatory issues and improve C&OR outcomes.

 

You will be responsible for leading a squad accountable for one of the following streams:

  • C&OR Policy-led approach: Designing, testing and implementing a new policy-led approach to C&OR
  • Framework uplift - Operational Risk & Change Management: design, testing and implementation of improvements to the Operational Risk and Change Management components of the I. AM Framework. This includes process design, developing system requirements and staff learning materials
  • Framework uplift - Compliance Management: design, testing and implementation of improvements to the Compliance Management components of the I. AM Framework. This includes process design, developing system requirements and staff learning materials
  • Framework uplift - Events and issue management: design, testing and implementation of improvements to the Compliance Management components of the I. AM Framework. This includes process design, developing system requirements and staff learning materials
  • Data & Systems: Responsible for the delivery of a new Group Risk & Compliance System using the system requirements built by other product streams, as well as managing all associated technology change and data governance requirements. Also responsible for supporting the data analytics requirements of the C&OR strategy. 

You must be a “T-shaped individual”, with a breadth of knowledge and experience across Compliance and Operational Risk, but with depth in at least one of the product streams identified above, and will be expected to provide thought leadership to ANZ. They will use this expertise as a voice of the customer in the design and delivery process, and to create shared clarity and buy-in with all stakeholders. Your main accountabilities are: 

  • Leadership – Line management of a squad including fostering a collaborative and highly-performing team culture.
  • Design and planning – Working with the supporting Delivery Lead and stakeholders to design the stream features that will deliver the required C&OR outcomes. It is expected the Product Owner will be the voice of users, and the PO will use their deep subject matter expertise and human-centred design principles to ensure quality outputs that meet business and regulator needs
  • Execution – Supporting the squad and Delivery lead as required to deliver the features
  • Engagement – Lead the engagement of leaders and SMEs at all stages of the delivery lifecycle. 

Your key priorities and responsibilities include: 

  • Own the design and scope of the feature development to achieve the required outcomes
  • Work with stakeholders to develop the acceptance criteria for each feature of work which can be used to confirm what is done
  • Take accountability for the quality of the outputs, ensuring they meet stakeholder needs
  • Working with the Program Director, own the engagement processes for Senior Stakeholders ensuring standards of good governance in the approval of outputs. Participate in required forums
  • Apply a delivery mindset, driving clarity, accountability and timeliness
  • People management of a squad including establishing a high-performing and highly engaged team, coaching, objective setting and performance management

About You

To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following: 

  • Appropriate university degree supported by at extensive experience of practical application of knowledge in the banking / financial industry (or a related industry), with a curious and constantly evolving approach
  • Required (Policy & Framework): Proven experience in Operational Risk and Compliance, with an SME level of expertise in at least one of the C&OR Strategy product streams.
  • Required (Systems and Data): Extensive experience in the delivery of major technology platforms and changes, with at expertise in a Risk and Compliance setting.
  • Required: Experience in design and delivery of major change in a Risk and Compliance context in a large organisation, to a high standard.         
  • Experienced people leader, with extensive experience in a people management capacity. With the appropriate experience in:
    • Ability to use influence to mobilise action and create buy-in to drive delivery.
    • Being comfortable to ‘roll up the sleeves’ and work hands-on, collaboratively with passion and energy as a key member of a fast-paced team
    • Analytical, strong ability to influence without direct authority and demonstrated learning agility to digest complex and large information sets to draw insights, conclusions and actions
  • Desired: specific detailed knowledge of the I.AM Framework and its practical application, COR, and processes and approaches used Divisionally for the management of Compliance and Operational Risk
