Do you have a passion for chemical analysis? Are you a natural leader who enjoys developing a team to success? We may have the opportunity for you! We are seeking a dedicated Laboratory Supervisor to join and lead the Laboratory team on a permanent basis at our Wagerup Refinery.

As the Laboratory Supervisor you will be responsible for the daily routine operations of the Refinery Laboratory and supervision of the Laboratory Analysts on a Monday to Friday day shift roster.

Your role will be vital in solving process problems on the shift with the primary focus to restore laboratory operations to schedule and then ensure these problems are solved to root cause to eliminate re-occurrence.

We want someone who is able and comfortable in cross site leadership for annual business planning to ensure standardisation of key Laboratory systems and processes across the three WA Laboratories. Including ongoing team leadership of inter-laboratory standardisation team.

Other duties include but are not limited to;

  • Direct supervision of 12 shift analysts. This includes performance management, development and training and safety leadership for the group. Is responsible for assigning staff to routine work and other ad hoc requests for assistance from plant troubleshooting. Schedules leave and organises relief cover.
  • Ensures the efficient flow of work for routine analytical tasks to refinery customers. Including management of monitoring systems that demonstrate achievement of scheduled work to contract. Schedules new and/or extra work requests into the laboratory routines.
  • Is the first level help chain. Responds immediately to all problems raised by analysts within the lab. Helps to restore process to stable operation and works with the analyst on the root cause of the problem. Calls on others within the help chain to assist in root cause problem solving. Leads the Analyst Group in the use of ABS.
  • Leads daily work review using Visual Management systems for preventative maintenance, data quality and problem solving.
  • Maintains the routine analysis schedules for the laboratories LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and coordinates any changes and training required.
  • Provides leadership and co-ordination in support of objectives set out in TAT best practice community.

  • Diploma of Science In Chemistry
  • Solid experience working in a Laboratory involved with Bayer Process.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of all analysis techniques used in the Refinery laboratories.
  • Supervisory and people management experience required

Wagerup Alumina Refinery is located on the border of Western Australia’s Peel and South West regions, 130 kilometres south of Perth, four kilometres north of Yarloop and 13 kilometres south of Waroona. Wagerup refinery employs approximately 600 people and of those, around 30 per cent live in the local shires of Waroona and Harvey.
