Senior Operational Networks Engineer – AGL Torrens

This position will be responsible for developing new technologies and maintaining a functional, highly available, highly resilient, scalable and secure network environment within the AGL’s Operational Networks. We are looking for someone who have a passion for creating a network that caters for our existing and future business needs.

The Senior Operational Networks Engineer is a key member of the Operational Networks team. This role will be responsible for operational networks team performance. Assist in the provision of network and server support and problem escalation services for Operational Network team at the AGL.

This is a permanent full-time role.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Manager, Operational Networks, the key responsibilities of a Senior Operational Networks Engineer are:

  • Team Leadership – As a Team Leader, you will be responsible for day to day leadership of Operational IT engineers, setting up performance objections and managing the performance of the team.
  • Network System Support – Provide technical Expert support and optimise configuration and function of Operational Network switches, routers and firewalls, develop and maintain system documentation in accordance with AGL standards, Proactive monitor of the network systems and provide monthly reporting of network performance metrics
  • Server management – Support the operational Network Active Directory domains, databases and operational hardware, manage remote access devices, procurement of server hardware and software as required. Design and review IT operational infrastructure, including virtualisation, SAN storages and disaster resilient solutions. Provide specialist on-call technical support and after-hours support for critical systems.
  • Network Systems Security – Reporting any suspicious activity to IT security team, assist in IT security investigation for any suspected security incident, manage and update virus protection software and proactively conduct heath checks of servers to minimise server down-time.

About you:

The candidate must be proficient in all aspect of network technologies including but not limited to:

  • Minimum 5 plus years of experience in IT Operational services in a medium sized manufacturing or industrial corporate site
  • Relevant tertiary or equivalent IT qualifications
  • Advanced CISCO router, switch and firewall support skills (CCNA/CCNP, certification or equivalent experience)
  • Good Understanding of common routing protocols OSPF, BGP, RIP etc
  • Advanced Virtual environment, VMWARE, Microsoft OS and applications support skills
  • Working Knowledge of IT security practices, IT disaster resilience and redundancy practices
  • Hands on Team leader with experience in providing technical expertise as well as people management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills combined with consultative stakeholder management experience

This role also requires the incumbent to provide on call out of business hours problems, weekend travel and working at remote sites within limited on-line resources when directed.
