Senior Manager, Competition Regulation and Strategy


As Senior Manager, Competition Regulation and Strategy you will report to the GM Competition Regulation and Strategy. This opportunity is based in Melbourne however, for the right person we would consider Sydney.

In this role you will provide legal and regulatory advice, primarily on competition and consumer law as well as manage and identify potential competition and consumer law risks and issues across the AGL business. You will also have deep involvement in managing the current ACCC inquiries into the gas and electricity sectors.

Another key focus will be to manage strategic relationships with ACCC, AER, jurisdictional regulators (as required) and other external stakeholders in support of managing AGL’s responses to formal and informal requests for information by the ACCC and AER.


Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to the AGL business in respect of its everyday business and strategic initiatives
  • Management of the ACCC gas and electricity inquiries
  • Set the company-wide competition and consumer law regulatory strategy in conjunction with business units, and management of the enterprise wide CCA compliance program
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and relevant governments departments (Federal and State)

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Legally qualified, admitted to practise in Australia holding (or eligible to hold) a current practising certificate
  • Strong preference for candidates with knowledge of the Australian Competition and Consumer Act and preference for candidates with knowledge of its application to the Australian energy industry
  • Demonstrated track record of influencing outcomes with external parties, including government agencies and industry regulators and excellent stakeholder relationship management skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with high quality written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills
  • Strong and effective project management skills
