Senior Corporate Lawyer - Customer Markets


As the Senior Corporate Lawyer, you will manage legal risk through the independent and timely provision of legal services and advice, to support the achievement of AGL’s strategic business objectives.

Reporting to the Group Counsel – Customer Markets Projects, the Senior Corporate Lawyer is an active contributor within the Customer Markets Projects legal team and provides solid legal support and advice across corporate matters such as energy regulation, competition & consumer, international supply and procurement, commercial and consumer sales contracts, intellectual property, privacy, data security and corporate transactions.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • actively participate in the Customer Markets Projects Legal team
  • develop and maintain strong relationships and influence within the business, applying internal context to all legal advice to support achievement of business imperatives and to protect AGL’s legal position
  • maintain and provide a high level of expert legal advice in relevant areas of law, including for the following business units:
    • Energy Management and Business Energy Solutions in Customer Markets (including commercial solar, smart home and EVs)
    • Market Development in Wholesale Markets (including virtual power plants, batteries and other behind the meter projects)
    • Corporate Development (including energy technology investments and related transactions)
  • contribute to the physical, emotional and psychological health and safety of the Legal Team, through a strong commitment to workplace health and safety
  • demonstrate AGL values by working collaboratively across the business to create the best overall results and decisions
  • encourage and value the diversity of AGL’s workforce by upholding AGL’s inclusive workplace culture

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • a Bachelor of Laws degree and admittance to practice in Australia
  • demonstrated top tier, in-house experience at a senior level, supporting commercial functions within a highly competitive, innovative and increasingly disrupted sector
  • ability to lead complex legal matters, in a fast-paced environment, including management of external counsel, secondees and corporate lawyers where required
  • experience in leading business change in response to changes in the regulatory and commercial environment
  • a people focused approach to maximising organisational capacity, with the ability to engage with and position the organisation for effective, successful execution of strategy
