Cost Controller


About the Role 

Be part of a team that is leading the way with industry leading energy sourcing initiatives; the AGL LNG Import project. The LNG Import Project is a high profile and impactful project within AGL, developing a solution for increasing gas supplies to better serve our east coast gas customers.

As the Cost Controller you will lead and manage the cost control and reporting for the project and will work closely with the AGL Project team and external stakeholders to deliver an integrated cost control solution for the project. 

This role is a 12 months fixed term opportunity but potential for this to be extended as the project passes through key decision gates.


Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Project Lead, the successful candidate will administer the cost control system(s) and manage AFEs, project budget management and internal processes in SAP.  Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Assist in the preparation of:
    • Work Orders
    • Purchase Orders
    • Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), in cooperation with the Finance Business Partner,
    • Entering payment details to SAP;
  • Interface with external counterparties, other AGL departments and manage the processing of costs related processes;
  • In coordination with internal and external finance resources prepare inputs to monthly reporting and internal governance processes;
  • Monitoring and controlling cost activities through all phases of project;
  • Work closely with engineering team to process Change Orders and with the project Document Controller to ensure compliance with the agreed project protocols.
  • Understand and communicate the threats and opportunities to the project Budget;
  • Support, as required, negotiation of a broad range commercial agreements in support of the LNG Import Project.
  • Follow the required processes to ensure that project ensure compliance with AGL Wholesale Risk policies and corporate governance requirements.


About You   

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience cost / projects controls;
  • Experience in resources or major infrastructure projects would be highly regarded.
  • Experience with SAP is essential. Knowledge of Aconex and Sharepoint would be highly regarded.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team environment and autonomously;
  • Demonstrated team player with well-developed reporting skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proactive individual with high levels of initiative;
  • High level of business acumen and awareness – handles queries (including timeframes) by considering AGL’s wider business priorities;
  • Committed to confidential management of information;
  • Confident at liaising with people from all levels of the business and building relationships and credibility across the AGL business in order to support the development of projects;
