Business Energy Solutions / New Energy Accountant


We currently have a 12 month fixed term contract opportunity for a Business Energy Solutions / New Energy Accountant to join our finance team.

The primary purpose of role is to provide accurate financial information and insights to stakeholders around the financial result of the Business Energy Solutions (BES) and New Energy portfolios. The BES / New Energy Accountant is responsible for calculating and recording financial transactions for each reporting period with primary focus on the supporting the business with project tracking and management, accounting for accruals and opex management.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Project tracking and accounting for the various projects in Commercial Solar, Market Solutions and New Energy business segments with different accounting treatments ranging from recognition upon completion, amortisation of losses, accrued revenue and cost, etc
  • Calculating the month end accruals in line with AGL policies and Australian Accounting Standards
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to optimise financial result of business operations through financial analysis
  • Building models and financial structure to support the New Energy business as it pilots through various business models
  • Maintaining of financial control of relevant balance sheet accounts through balance sheet reconciliations
  • Preparing of monthly BAS statements and Australian Bureau of Statistics reports
  • Supporting the external audit process of the responsible areas
  • Preparing detailed commentary on the Income Statement and Balance Sheet monthly result to the respective FP&A Business Partners
  • Identifying improvement opportunities to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the existing processes
  • Actively participating in all relevant Health Safety and Environment programs and other AGL initiatives

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Previous Finance experience in a large company or professional services firm
  • CA / CPA / ACCA or equivalent Qualification
  • Expert knowledge of financial systems including SAP, Microsoft Excel and relational database systems (Microsoft Dynamics AX knowledge is advantageous)
  • Growth mindset with focus on improving processes and procedures around reporting
  • Dedication to meeting and exceeding the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Ability to communicate succinctly and effectively in both written and oral form
  • Experience of working collaboratively with others and building and maintaining strong team relationships
  • Understanding of the Australian Utilities market is advantageous
