Urban Design Principal

Job Summary

AECOM is looking for an enthusiastic Principal Urban Designer to join the Planning and Design team, a progressive group of landscape architects, planners and urban designers that work collaboratively and across disciplines within the Melbourne office and as part of a national team delivering city-shaping projects.

As part of the team, you will contribute to a design studio environment where you can help deliver and lead city shaping projects, and where you will be valued and rewarded for your creativity, collaboration and innovation. Key responsibilities:

  • Provide a lead role in urban design deliverables and advice for major infrastructure projects, urban design, master planning and other key projects across ANZ and AECOM
  • Represent AECOM to external clients and act as a senior advisor on Urban Design matters
  • Lead and manage urban design projects, provide creative direction, co-ordinate and lead project teams in delivering high quality outputs
  • Be responsible for general Clients and Consultants relationships in accordance with the Urban Design key practice strategies.
  • Support the Design and Planning leadership team in the engagement and development of staff in the Urban Design team.
  • Provide project operational support and leadership.
  • Provide overview to ensure that all documentation is produced to a high standard and in accordance with AECOM and/ or Project standard formats.

Minimum Requirements

Ideally you will have proven experience in a similar role with a combination of the following technical skills, attributes and experience:

  • Understanding public realm, built form, urban design, master planning and strategic planning principles and be able to provide practical, anticipatory and analytical advice
  • Developing organisation, communication (written, illustrative and verbal) and presentation skills
  • Being passionate and proactive about producing insightful and high quality work and advice
  • Innovative and strong lateral thinking
  • An ability to show initiative and work independently with some supervision
  • Developing project management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s in urban design.
