Senior Botanist

Job Summary

AECOM’s Impact Assessment Team in Perth has an exciting opportunity for a full time or part time senior level botanist with 5 - 10 years’ experience to join our team. AECOM offers an opportunity for technical growth by working across a diverse range of environments across WA including Kimberley, Pilbara, Goldfields, Wheatbelt and Swan districts as well as interstate opportunities in SA and NT. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to impact assessment documentation and lead projects of all sizes for a diverse selection of clients (local government, defense, mining, and utilities). You will often be required to provide botanical consultancy and advisory services as part of a multi-disciplinary team to both internal and external clients. AECOM offers potential flexibility to the preferred candidate to partially work remotely and/or from home.

About the role

  • Working as part of an established team of AECOM ecologists;

  • Field-based ecology survey work, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, targeted threatened flora surveys, wetlands assessment and weed surveys;

  • Leading projects across a wide range of ecological disciplines and clients;

  • Ecological impact assessment for a range of projects and scale;

  • Supporting internal clients with delivering the ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects;

  • Working independently, or with other ecologists and professionals, in the planning, delivery and management of ecology surveys; data analysis and evaluation of results, impacts assessments, and the design and implementation of successful mitigation strategies;

  • Assisting with managing the technical and financial performance of ecological and Environmental Impact Assessment projects;

Minimum Requirements

  • Technical and professional proficiency with a demonstrable history of successfully working in ecology consultancy including through client liaison, within multi-disciplinary teams and completion of projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets;

  • Undergraduate degree classification in environmental science, natural resource management or similar;

  • Experience undertaking plant taxonomy;

  • Excellent field skills and experience conducting vegetation surveys in a broad range of environments;

  • Proven experience of developing and implementing targeted threatened species surveys;

  • Working knowledge of Commonwealth and WA environmental legislation and relevant policies and guidelines;

  • Previous work experience in the ecology sector within a professional consultancy (or relevant NGO or academic experience if applicable)

  • Drivers licence and capacity to work outdoors on short and extended field programs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data analysis i.e. cluster analysis and Floristic Community Type similarity analysis)

  • Experience with GIS desktop and data collection packages such as ESRI ArcGIS

  • Ability to assist on interstate field work (if necessary)

  • Consulting experience is desirable but not essential
