Principal Engineer - Civil & Tunnelling

Australia - New South Wales, Sydney - AU Job Summary Our Ground Engineering team in Sydney is seeking experienced tunnelling engineerswith structural, soil or rock mechanics backgrounds to support our existing and upcoming tunnelling project demands. You will provide technical support to tunnelling projects throughout Australia, New Zealand and globally, such as for NEOM in Saudi Arabia. At AECOM we work on a wide range of projects, from client-based delivery through to detailed design for Design and Construct contractors. We are actively looking to expand our core tunnelling business with the appointment of a Senior / Principal Engineer, with more experienced applicants also welcomed. We offer the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most challenging tunnelling projects in a supportive team environment. Role Responsibilities Assist in the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects for an array of local, national, and international clients. Contribute to technical concepts and approaches. Prepare and manage the delivery of technical reports and proposals. Establish and maintain relationships with public and private clients. Supervise, co-ordinate and review activities completed by early career professionals. Contribute to the growth of AECOM's tunnelling, geotechnical, and underground engineering practice in Australia and New Zealand. Minimum Requirements The following requirements are indicative and can be based on your level of experience, namely: Be well advanced in applying for or having achieved chartered engineer status, or equivalent. Strong written and verbal communication skills (essential). Experienced in design and construction of multiple tunnelling and shaft construction methodologies, deep cuts, and difficult ground conditions. Experienced in detailed design, concept design and feasibility studies. Ideally national and international experience in a range of infrastructure projects. Ability to plan, execute, document, and manage projects. Experience in conducting constructability reviews. Understands Safety in Design and risk management processes and able to demonstrate and implement industry best practice for the design and construction of underground structures. Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate the integration of geotechnical designs with other disciplines. You will be required to guide packages of work in your control and deliver designs, reports, and specifications for underground works. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Principal Civil Engineer to support and deliver our rail and stations pipeline to our key clients. This is a fantastic opportunity to be actively involved in an innovative and highly motivated team of professionals, be instrumental in delivering landmark projects within NSW and across Australia and assisting in the further development of building pipelines of unique and exciting transportation projects. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical, on time and on budget delivery of complex multi discipline station projects of all sizes and scales. You will be responsible for the development and coordination of stations and rail systems designs between various key disciplines such as architecture, structures, mechanical and electrical. You will be involved in various project lifecycle design stages from feasibility, through concept and detail design. The successful candidate will be required to support and deliver designs and should have sufficient stations experience to be able to provide technical support to the relevant disciplines, make informed decisions and offer new ideas and perspectives back in to the design delivery process. Knowledge of multi-disciplined station design and construction is essential for this role as well as having a strong understanding of sequencing and interfacing between all the relevant disciplines that are required. International experience would be an advantage but not a pre-requisite. As a Principal Engineer - Stations, you will: Lead the design and coordination of stations and interface with and associated areas outside the direct rail corridor areas including both new stations and station alterations and upgrades for our rail and transportation project pipeline. Provide accurate and professionally responsible outputs on program and on budget Effectively lead project teams with tenacity and drive to set high quality standards Coach and mentor junior team members Build, maintain and manage strong client relationships through technical delivery excellence Identify and lead work winning opportunities to grow AECOMs project pipeline in stations and other rail and rail systems related disciplines Ensure that all activities are performed in a safe manner and comply with AECOM and Clients OH&S requirements. Minimum Requirements Ideally, you will have: Appropriate years' experience Extensive years of experience in station design including experience in coordination, design management and supporting Contractors through the construction phases. Experience working for a Civil, Structural or Rail Consultancy and proven experience in delivering complex multi-disciplinary rail projects Experience in working with external subconsultants and effectively managing external consultants to meet project requirements Demonstrated commercial understanding and the ability to develop Client and Contractor relationships Ability to manage multiple priorities and communicate effectively with both internal and external clients around key dates Experience preparing design reports and detailed drawings In depth knowledge of relevant TfNSW and Australian Standards plus relevant TfNSW station design guidelines. Proficient in Tender Reviews and in the writing of bids for rail and station design projects Ability to achieve and maintain high levels of quality and consistency of outputs Ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for quality of deliverables and meeting deadlines Understanding of key building design issues and processes and appreciation of rail corridor related disciplines and interfaces. Thorough understanding of TfNSW technical standards and processes CPEng desirable. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural engineering. Maintain the monthly cash flow forecast to a high degree of accuracy in order to meet financial targets. Monitor staffing plan and analyse forecast throughout the project. EVM: Perform periodically earned value analysis with project progress measurement. Establish S-curves and trends. 3rd Party Cost Control: Lead the subcontractors invoice review (Construction Management). Track budget, expenditures and EAC for all subcontractors. Ensure subcontractors deliver to cash flow targets. 3rd Party Tender Review: Assist sourcing department during bidding process and tendering period by assessing proposed costs and providing critical feedback. Change Management: Follow the established change management process with all internal CSL area leads as well as 3rd parties. Reporting: Develop monthly project reports as well as detailed biweekly cost and schedule reports and present these to the project leads and management. Finance: Liaise with site finance department and accounting department to ensure accruals, recoveries, and further reconciliations are updated on a monthly basis. Requirements Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering (Civil or Mechanical strongly preferred) Additional degree in Mathematics is strongly desirable Relevant experience in cost planning and scheduling, Biotech, Pharmaceutical is highly desirable Experience in large capital projects $100mil+ AUD Strong knowledge of both cost control and planning, including change mgt, risk mgt, EVM, QRA and CPM. Familiar with estimating and benchmarking in the pharmaceutical industry. Strong communication and presentation skills towards customers, design teams, contractors and management. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Primavera P6 software. Experience with SAP, ARIBA and other financial tools is an advantage.
