Gidget Foundation Australia is a not for profit organisation that provides programs to support the emotional wellbeing of expectant and new parents.
The Gidget Foundation evokes Gidget’s warmth and lively spirit. Established by Gidget’s friends and sisters, the Foundation has grown and is now supported by passionate individuals, community leaders and health professionals.
Nearly 1 in 5 mothers and 1 in 10 fathers will experience perinatal depression and anxiety that is often hidden and not fully understood. It impacts around 100,000 Australians each year, and suicide is the leading cause of maternal death. Nearly 50% of all parents experience adjustment disorders.
Gidget Foundation Australia is supported by the generosity of philanthropic individuals and businesses, the NSW Government, as well as events.
“Gidget was the nickname of a vibrant young mother who tragically took her own life while suffering postnatal depression. She hid her suffering from even her loving family and friends. Together, they created the Gidget Foundation Australia determined that what happened to Gidget would not happen to others.”
